Thor Saunders
Thor has over 25 years experience in the field of fisheries science with research expertise in the area of marine invertebrate biology and ecology and fisheries species stock structure. He joined NSW DPI in late 2022 as the Director of Fisheries Research and leads a research team of over 100 staff and oversees the work of at least 150 research projects. Previously Thor worked as a Research Leader for Northern Territory Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade focusing on ensuring the research team delivered high quality science and stock assessment outputs. Additionally, he was integrally involved in assisting Fisheries managers to develop harvest strategies for key fisheries in the NT. Previous to that, Thor worked as an Abalone Scientist for the South Australian Research and Development institute.
