Victoria’s new conservation hatchery marks a critical step in the state’s commitment to preserving aquatic biodiversity and restoring native species populations. This presentation will provide a comprehensive update on the hatchery's progress, focusing on its infrastructure development, conservation goals, and emerging research insights. Since its launch, the hatchery has prioritized species facing severe population declines due to habitat loss, climate change, and introduced species. This talk will highlight early successes, including survival rates and growth metrics, as well as challenges encountered in adapting conservation methodologies to regional species and environmental conditions. The hatchery currently has 12 species of endangered or critically endangered aquatic fauna in various stages of production.
